City council and Deer Park ISD elections run on Texas's May uniform election date, on separate ballots, in rhythms most residents never track — and it's on those same local ballots that the town periodically renews the sales-tax districts that fund police and fire. Turnout in these is a fraction of a presidential year, which means a small number of votes decides who runs the town and how its core services get paid for.
